CELEBRITY INTERVIEW Anjana Sukhani | Roshni Chopra |Bosco Caesar |Ranvir Shorey |Mugdha Godse |Maanvi Gagroo |Arjan Bajawa |Manjari Fadnis

She is thinking big(screen)

She has been there and done that on stage and TV! Now, she is all set to set the silver screen afire with her film Phhir. JAM catches up with Roshni Chopra

Let's start with your background.
I was into theater as a kid. Later, I did my masters in media and communications. For a while, I thought I would make a successful business woman. But after 15 years of education I realised I wanted to do something more creative, so I was back to square one. I guess you cannot take 'you' away from you.

We have seen you as Pia in Kasam Se, then you hosted a cricket show and now you are a successful compere. How do you manage to juggle so many things?
I believe that variety is the spice of life. I consider myself lucky that I have had so many opportunities in life to explore so many new things. I thrive on variety.

How did it all begin for you? How did you land your first break in television?
I did a lot of theater as a child. It was during one such play that Charu Sharma spotted me. He liked my acting skills and asked me to audition for his cricket show. Then I landed the role of a host. For TV, Ekta Kapoor had seen some of my previous work and a few episodes of my cricket show. She had seen my work in an English film called Let's Enjoy too. I was called to Balaji to audition for Pia's role. I went there and did a narration. She thought I was perfect for the role. Soon I was signed on and that is how it all began.

You are also an accomplished dancer and singer. Tell us more about this?
I have never had any formal training in singing. I believe that music is a gift from God. I love composing and singing. I enjoy dancing a lot. I trained in jazz with Ashley Lobo for a while. But I have not had the chance to explore it further. Hopefully, there will come a role or a show where I will get a chance to learn dancing professionally.

What keeps you going?
The fact that every morning will bring a new experience. I will learn something new each day. I will be able to give something new too. I love the freshness and the unpredictability of this vocation.

How would you want to be known as in future?
I would want to be known as an excellent entertainer. Someone who was worth watching.

Tell us about your film Phhir?
It is a thriller written and produced by Vikram Bhatt and directed by Girish Thameja. The film is set in New Castle, England.

My co-stars are Rajnesh Duggal and Abha Sharma. I think making a debut with an unconventional film is more fascinating than doing the same old run-of-the-mill film. I feel I am lucky to be a part of an internationally styled film.

Tell us about your role in the film?
I play Rajneesh's wife. I am a law professor at a university. My character is that of an Indian girl settled abroad, but very Indian and traditional at heart. For now I can only say this.

And what about your future projects.
I am doing another film, but cannot talk about it. I am hosting Comedy Circus. So, that is it for now!
