THE ANNUAL JAM COLLEGE RANKINGS
If there’s one thing the annual India Today college rankings possess it’s consistency. Consistently strange results! As we have repeatedly pointed out, asking principals and HODs to rank hundreds of colleges across cities is not a sensible methodology. So, for the benefit of fresh-out-of-school students seeking the “best colleges” in their city, JAM has once again compiled college rankings based on a more reliable source - student feedback. Most of us would rather choose a college based on what our peers (who are actually studying there) advise. Rather than trust the “opinions” of the academicians surveyed by India Today - folks who are usually far removed from reality, and their own students! Our methodology: 1126 respondents in 4 cities answered our online poll (students were asked only to rank the colleges in their city, for the stream they are studying). The final rankings have been arrived after also taking into account factors like admission cut-offs, extra-curriculars and overall reputation. By no means are the JAM rankings perfect but we do think they present a more accurate picture of the “most wanted” colleges of today. It’s ultimately upto you to discover which college is best suited for you. Some colleges are less favoured but have excellent departments for a particular subject. Other colleges are great for acads but pathetic in extra-curriculars. Go with what feels right for you. Till next year, Amen.
* JAM will publish detailed Engineering and Medical college rankings in July when admissions to those streams are on. BMM and BMS college rankings will also be featured separately.
