 *Xavier’s offers an evening Commerce course frequented by working students. You aren’t even treated as part of the main college! What’s more, in the Ready Reckoner to colleges published in the same edition, right after the rankings, it’s mentioned that Xavier’s Commerce cut off is a mere 35%.

Trying to compile Science rankings is quite a task in Mumbai because of the junior college-senior college divide. eg. While Xavier’s is the best for a B. Sc., it’s not a college you’d join after 10th if you’re serious about Medicine or Engineering. So we’ve made a further classification.

While Commerce rules and Science is the refuge of the second best, the worst rejects and losers seem to choose Arts in Mumbai. Except at Xavier’s (and to an extent Sophia). Consequently everything related to Arts suffers be it the quality of students, faculty or interest levels. At a college like Mithibai - one of the better ones around - you can get into junior college with a mere 35%. 		JAM
