This book was born out of a single motive: to guide students. In a scenario where there are 1500 engineering colleges - and more coming up every year - decision making is becoming more and more complicated.

Hence, the idea of the JAM Engineering College Ratings.

Yes, many magazines carry out surveys and publish rankings. These are useful exercises as far as the general state of the nation go. But they don't specifically help you.

The problem is not deciding 'which IIT' to join. Just a handful of you will face that kind of happy decision. The issue generally is: Which is the best college I can join with my AIEEE/ CET score?

Best’ in terms of facilities, teaching, job prospects and overall college experience.

The choices available to you will be a list of colleges which are not so well known or written about. The best way to figure out the pros and cons of joining these colleges is to get in touch with students who already study there.

And that is what we have done. The JAM Engineering College Ratings are primarily based on a survey of 7,000 past and present students of engineering colleges all over India. The survey was carried out both online and offline. The questionnaire covered four important areas:
- Infrastructure
- Placement
- Faculty
- X factor (extra curriculars, college brand name etc)

We also conducted in depth interviews of coaching class professors and counselors in different states. The final ratings are based on: Survey results + interviews + JAM's Expert Opinion.

Choosing a college is as much an art as it is a science. Factors like travel time and location are often as important as choice of branch because the ultimate goal is to learn as well as have fun. JAM has taken into account such factors while drawing up India’s first and only student-friendly ratings.

We have worked hard to provide the most accurate information, but urge you to speak to friends, seniors and teachers before you make a final decision. And do point out any errors or omissions. We are definitely open to feedback! This is the first edition of the JAM Engineering College Admissions Guide. We plan to conduct this exercise every year - and create a well loved institution.

May your fondest hopes and dreams come true. And remember - college life is what you make of it. This is not the end of the journey, it’s just the beginning!
