When the line ‘Ye Mauka Nahi Milega Dubara’ plays again and again in the track Rock On!, it sure will lift your spirits however low you may be feeling. And the guitar riff that plays through the song rings a familiar bell. It’s the same piece that Shankar Ehsaan Loy had created for Lakshya; the signature tune. Using it here was perhaps to create a recall value. Intelligent move, must say! Composer duo Jatin-Lalit also did a similar ‘recall value test’ in the song ‘Suraj Hua Madhham’ from the film Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham where they included an interlude of the signature tune of their previous hit song ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.’
Coming back to Rock on!, it’s a truly rocking album, marking a sort of come back for Shankar Ehsaan Loy after a series of dismal performances; the likes of Heyy Baby and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic. Its lively, energetic, fresh and true rock style! Rock Music, in its pure form, has been used very rarely in Hindi films. Barring a few mild rock songs like ‘Bande’ in Black Friday, most of them are polluted with bits of filmi sound in between. In Rock on!, the trio has attempted to take rock music seriously and have packed a punch with nine electrifying tracks.
The biggest surprise is (of course!) Farhan Akhtar! He’s a true find for the world of Music. He has almost dominated the scene by singing five out of nine tracks. He sings like he were trained all his life; throws loads of emotion and fun into the tracks. I love the song ‘Phir Dekhiye’ sung by Caralisa Monteiro. The lyrics are amazing and so is the music of the entire song. ‘Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein’ is another solid slow soulful song.
Just get the album. You’re sure to love it. |
