Statutory warning: this reviewer is NOT a great fan of Bollywood comedies, since they invariably involve the same old formula of mindless confusion and poke fun at physically challenged people. In spite of sticking to the formula, this one - oh how I hate being clichéd - is different.
First things first - the actors have a good comic timing. It starts off with the pathetically shot title song during the casting. After that's (thankfully) over, things slowly but surely start to improve. The plot develops well, the main protagonists being a group of mastikhor youngsters (Ajay Devgan, Sharman Joshi, Arshad Warsi and the "dumb" Tusshar Kapoor), out of which only one is a collegian (the others, we are told, were rusticated years back). It is that kind of group which exists in every college. All's well until they land up at the residence of a blind couple (Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Mukherjee) after being kicked out of the hostel. Thanks to their eavesdropping skills, the foursome end up impersonating the couple's grandson. Improbable you say? Well, that's how comedies are made in India. To add to the confusion, there are goons called Vasooli and Babli (along with his henchmen). Wait - don't make your mind just yet. There's an interesting final twist to the tale, which is somewhat logical. On the flipside, it's too long, gets too stupid and/ or predictable at times, Rimi Sen is not required, and the song timings are not too great, with one exception - which...
happens to be a spoof of the oldie movies.
Worth watching once for all the laughs it provides.
