Dooooorieeee sahi jaye naaaa. No aashiqui, deewangi, mohabbat or any of the hundred other Bollywood cliches for love . Yet, a love song sung straight from the heart. The question is: Is Doorie the album bigger than Doorie the song? In other words, is it a one hit wonder album?
Well, on first listen, the other songs don't really jump out and grab you. But give it a couple of hearings and they grow on you. There's a signature Atif Aslam singing style and a soulful melancholy running through the album. The first half is slower and songs make use of more Urdu and ghazal like lyrics. Eventually the album goes Punjabi and uptempo (but not bhangra). And at the very end the slow songs have been given the remix treatment.
But overall, the album is very listenable. Hum kiss galli ja rahein hain and Kuch is tarah are my favourites after Doorie. We now know Atif Aslam has considerable talents. His former bandmates in Jal also need to move on and prove themselves.
