After a brilliant debut with the soundtrack for the movie Aamir, one of Bollywood's most talented yet largely unknown music directors, Amit Trivedi returns with his second music score for Director Anurag Kashyap's modern-day interpretation of Devdas, Dev.D. The mammoth soundtrack, which includes 18 original tracks (no remix fillers) is truly, 'the baap of all genres' as Amit Trivedi himself put it.
Starting off with the dark, techno sounds of 'Aankh Micholi' sung by Trivedi himself, the album is truly impossible to predict. Featuring everything from show tunes (‘Dil Mein Jaagi’), Rajasthani folk (‘Pardesi’), Sufi (‘Dhol Yaara Dhol’) and Bhangra (‘Hikknaal’), the album is consistently brilliant no matter what the genre.
The impossible to dislike zaniness of the brass version of 'Emosional Atyachaar' (which also has an equally appealing rock version) makes this album one of the most diversely weird yet beautiful Bollywood soundtracks you'll ever hear. Kudos to Amit Trivedi, Joi Barua, Labh Janjua and Shilpa Rao for brilliant vocals throughout the record. Miss this and you'll miss one of the best Bollywood soundtracks ever.
