Infantaria
This was one of the first places where we feasted, much to the chagrin of my vegetarian creative head, who shed tears for with the little shark and squids I gorged into. Infanteria is a bar cum bakery cum 24 hr dining service. Now I don’t know what that means - whether they take 24 hrs to serve a single meal or you have to remind them 24 times that you’ve placed an order. Anyway, post beer and some exquisite Calamari in butter Garlic Sauce with boiled beans and carrots, the main dish arrived: Rice and Pomfret Curry. After downing the first small piece of fish I was left searching for more. But in vain! I drowned my rice of sorrows into the gravy of jinx and ate it all. Yeh kya hai! Yeh machchi curry hai? Methinks Infanteria serves only infant fish...

However, you don't mind paying for the infant brownies and muffins, they are haute. You could pick up a chicken burger or hotdog for a hurried snack.

As we left, a bunch of foreigners were giggling amongst themselves in a running Italian commentary, as a dog tried to hump a bored-looking bitch. Five minutes later, a mass of flesh (a woman) ran across the road in a skimpy pink towel.

I like Goa. Come to Goa and Go aaaaaaaaaa!

The Curry House
This one is special more like an elevated shack filled with odd foreign couples and the drinking loners looking for peace. The thatched restaurant had a chink-eyed waiter with a Southie accent that even I couldn't figure out. But everyone there liked Bob Marley who crooned 'No woman no cry, Buffalo soldier, Don't you worry’ etc, amidst dim lights overlooking the street.

The mood I was in hardly made me feel like I was ‘working’. But I still had to survive the taunts of my vegetarian creative head from hell. We ordered Pork Vindaloo with Paratha and rice, and Prawn Vindaloo.

Pungent is not the word !! Haaa, Kings beer to the rescue! The beer-vindaloo combination is a..hic...heheh..combination to be held in 'High' regard. The pork here was roasted and therefore hard, unlike the soft meat that one would expect but different and good nonetheless. The Prawns vindaloo was my first try and it was good - anything called Vindaloo is a must-eat.

George's Restaurant & Bar
George Clooney was in the news lately, when he lost his pet swine. Apart from Gabbar (’soooarr ke bachchon!’) and Clooney, George’s Restaurant & Bar at Panjim is another reason why one would like pork. I evaded the vindaloos, sorpotels and chops, and went straight for the Balchao. No, it’s not hairy pork (Bal, Hair..err..bad joke). This was spicy as compared to the Vindaloo, and the meat was softer with thicker gravy.

We then feasted on Goan sausages in a bunch-of-balls arrangement, besides Prawns Masala in Coconut Gravy, along with Goan Fish Curry. Me and my comrade Mr. Shakya sank into carnivoral bliss as Mr Kings beer accentuated the feeling of fulfillment. I could marry the next lady who’d cook food for me like that (Now, girls come in line!). The best in Panjim.
